Alkira is a not for profit, community organisation that provides services to adults with intellectual disabilities and support to those who care for them. Over 240 people are supported in their daily lives to We have a wide range of community and home supports services. These services enable people to live as autonomously as possible with the shared and individualised supports they need.

Alkira strives to meet the needs and wishes of people with intellectual disabilities through care and support to enrich and challenge them to be a part of the world community.

Founded in 1954, by a small group of parents (Founding Families), Alkira was born out of a vision of providing opportunities for their children who were denied access to mainstream education due to their disability.
The vision those parents shared so long ago, was for their children to learn and thrive and grow to lead fulfilling and rich lives within the community. Through dogged determination, dedication and hard work that small group of parents succeeded; and today more than 240 people access Alkira’s services.
